best oil company initiative: WINNER

Leading locations

01 February, 2017

It was a very sweet moment for the team at Townstal Road Garage and especially for properietor Julian Holliss of Holliss Filling Stations to achieve such success at the awards, following a gruelling few years fighting off supermarket competition. In recent years, the site has upgraded its offer with a Subway, two Costa Express machines, Post Office, new tills, back and head office systems enabling payback loyalty, social media and coupon promotions and better control of margin. "We are community-orientated retailers who prioritise and consistently deliver standards, recognise evolving trends and methods of communicating with our customer base," says Julian. "Over the past decade, challenges at the site through competition have seemed relentless. We have adapted, re-shaped and re-invested in our offer to meet the changing landscape and customers' expectations.

World-class service

04 November, 2016

By the time Patrick Sewell picked up the prestigious Forecourt Trader of the Year 2016 trophy, it had become clear throughout the evening that something rather special had been taking place within the Sewell on the go business. Its sites were finalists in no less than nine out of the 11 specialist categories, as well as both volume categories for the North of England region, where it has 12 forecourts in and around Hull and East Riding. It won in four categories, with South Cave winning two, including the award for Best Customer Service.

'Best of British' on parade in London

S ewell on the go South Cave takes forecourt convenience to a new level. The site was completely reimagined last year during a 1.5m redevelopment, creating improved access and new facilities which make full use of the land. The drive onto the spacious forecourt is impressive, with its many facilities including rollover and jet washing and ample parking. The forecourt is complemented by a bright, larger welcoming store for all. Store decoration is rustic in part, creating a farm shop feel and aisles are stocked with local produce and quality groceries, supplemented with popular brands such as Costa Express and Subway. Customer service is a priority as is supporting the local community with numerous initiatives. It's a fantastic operation and a deserving winner of the top prize. On top of all that, it's the only site to have scored full marks across all categories in our monthly Shop Doctor Stealth Check when it was visited earlier this year. The conclusion was that it's pretty hard to find fault with this site as it has everything anyone stopping at a forecourt could ask for.

Best motorway services

04 March, 2016

Gloucester Services on the M5 is a motorway services area like no other. It has two aims: to make local, quality food accessible and affordable, and to inject investment back into the surrounding community. So, instead of the usual franchises and fast food outlets, visitors find a farm shop stocked with locally produced food, a butchery featuring Gloucestershire's finest meat, and a kitchen serving home-made dishes, made from locally sourced ingredients. To achieve this, owner Westmorland works with over 130 local suppliers within 30 miles of the services as well as 70 producers from further across the South West.

Retailer champion

04 March, 2016

he Westmorland Family's managing director/finance director Laurence King beat off stiff competition from Peter Bellini, Clive Sheppard, David Penny, Sharad Raja, and Raj and Aziz Patel to be named Forecourt Trader's Retailer Champion. The special award was supported by the principal sponsor, Certas Energy, and was voted for by Forecourt Trader readers.

Jet believes its heritage is one of its greatest strengths and so wanted to celebrate its 60th anniversary in style.

Listen. Analyse. Act. This is the premise of Shell's successful Tell Shell: UK Voice of the Customer programme. The aim of the initiative was to increase customer satisfaction. Customer feedback was gathered through the use of Tell Shell cards, newsletters and voice-of-the-customer analytics. Shell used it to create a Customer Charter, which comprises four pillars of service: treated like a guest; quick and easy; clean and bright; and everything works.
