    British consumers are spending more money than ever on entertainment – and not just on eating out or drinking down the pub. They’re shelling out to be entertained in their homes and cars. As such they’re demanding DVDs and CDs at an astonishing rate. Market forecasts estimate that 196 million DVDs will be sold this year as well as 179 million albums.

    If you go down to your local cinema today you’re in for a big surprise – especially if you haven’t been there for some time. That’s because cinemas are buzzing. They’ve never been so popular – each week some 3.5 million people go to see a film and that’s the highest audience number since 1954.

    Contrary to the message in the 80s hit, video never did kill the radio star, but DVD may well kill video. According to the British Video Association (BVA), DVD rental overtook video for the first time earlier this year.
