It’s been a busy few weeks for the tobacco companies, with activity including a launch, pack redesigns and a new UK distribution deal.

Imperial Tobacco is tapping into the continued growth of the ultra low-priced cigarette sector with the launch of budget brand Windsor Blue. Previously sold under the Co-op label, Imperial bought the rights to the brand last year and has updated the packaging and extended the range to include five variants: King Size 10s and 20s, King Size Smooth 20s, Superkings 10s and 20s, Superkings Smooth 20s and Superkings Menthol 20s. Pricemarked packs highlight the value, with King Sized packs retailing at £3.90 for 20 and Superkings at £3.95.

Iain Watkins, trade communications manager at Imperial, says the launch brings a quality brand proposition to the lowest-price sector. “Windsor Blue offers high quality and amazing value for money,” he said.

In another development, British American Tobacco’s premium brand, Dunhill International, has a new pack design to bring it in line with the rest of the Dunhill family.

Finally, Natural American Spirit, a range of chemical- and additive-free tobacco products, is to be distributed in the UK by Loretta Cigars. The cigarettes and rolling tobacco contain 100% natural whole leaf tobacco with no burn accelerators, stems or expanded tobacco. The deal will provide sales and marketing support to help grow the brand portfolio.
