Paypoint will become the sole provider of TV Licensing’s over-the-counter licence payment services across the UK from July 31.

Under the new contract PayPoint will offer a range of payment solutions for those who prefer not to buy their licence online, by phone or by post. These will include accepting payments made with a new TV Licensing Saving Card, instead of the old payment method using stamps, as well as issuing new licences and providing short-term licences. PayPoint says it will work closely with its retail partners to fully brief them on the new procedures and will be guiding them through the transition process.

Retail director, Mike Igoe, said: "This is a significant gain for PayPoint, which will not only offer the customer a more convenient way to manage their TV Licensing payments, but gives retailers an impressive opportunity to boost revenue and increase customer footfall."

TV Licensing will write to customers and provide new payment cards for those who need them by the end of June.

There are now 15,000 PayPoint outlets across the UK, including around 1,100 forecourt agents. The network has now overtaken that of the Post Office and is expected to grow to 17,000 outlets by 2007.
