Cadbury is confident the recall of seven of its products over a salmonella scare will have no long-lasting effect on sales.

The products that are affected are 250g bars of Cadbury Dairy Milk Turkish, Caramel and Mint; CDM eight-chunk, CDM 1kg, CDM Buttons Easter egg and Cadbury Freddo.

Cadbury has said retailers should clear their shelves of the bars and return them to their cash and carry or wholesalers, where they will receive a full refund. In addition, the company's salesforce is visiting retailers, taking the stock off their hands, and giving them credits.

When it comes to consumers, Mike Tipping, head of customer relations at Cadbury said: "If a customer comes in demanding a refund, the retailer should make their own decision on whether to give a refund there and then based on the particular customer but retailers, and consumers, should call our helpine for advice."

The number is 08701 917343.
