Anti-crime system specialist CTAC claims to have produced an effective answer to the problem of armed robberies on petrol forecourts with the launch of its Neo Digital Recording System and purpose-built British Standard Central Monitoring Station.
The system uses fixed or pendant-type panic buttons, and motion detectors for after-hour’s intrusion, which are both directly linked to a control room for full visual monitoring.
The company says the system incorporates high-capacity recording and remote client viewing as standard, with the benefit of generating CD copies for police evidence. It claims the financial impact to the retailer is minimised because the system is compatible with 99% of existing camera equipment, and monitoring and hardware costs are more than 30% cheaper than most other centrally monitored CCTV systems.
John Bennett of Bennett’s Service Station in Ross on Wye, said: “The major advantage of a system of this kind is the clarity of information that can be instantly relayed to the police. Under normal circumstances the victim of the crime is too traumatised to give detailed information to the arriving officers and the perpetrator is already miles away in their getaway vehicle. On activation of the silent attack button, live images from internal and forecourt cameras are instantly relayed to the central station. The operator is able to identify the severity of the threat and inform the police instantly, giving detailed information of the incident, the criminals, and most importantly their getaway vehicle, so police units in the area are instantly alerted.
