Rizla Smooth is the latest addition to Imperial Tobacco's line-up of RYO papers, which will now have nine variants.

The distinguishing feature of 'Smooth' is that the papers are perforated with thousands of tiny holes to enhance air flow through the tobacco. They are designed to give a smoother taste, and could encourage more smokers - who currently find roll-ups too harsh - to roll their own cigarettes. The new papers - rrp 28p with a 50% trade margin - also have cut corners for ease of rolling. The duty-paid RYO market is growing at a rate of 10% year-on-year and contributes £112m annually to retailers' turnover, according to Imperial Tobacco's trade communications manager Iain Watkins: "We're confident Rizla Smooth will help to grow the RYO market. Smooth has been developed in response to extensive research."
