Palmer & Harvey, the UK’s largest wholesale distributor, is relaunching its symbol offer with a greater range of benefits and incentives designed to add more value for both existing and potential new members. Revealing the news at the company’s annual Pro-Retail Exhibition at the International

Centre in Telford last month, Peter Austen, the company’s managing director for commercial, also announced the launch of the ’Promoting Retail Excellence Programme’ (PREP); and the introduction of Plus News - a new category management service for newspapers and magazines, aimed at independent retailers.

Austen said the latest initiatives were part of a continuing strategy by the company - which has a 65% share of the forecourt wholesale market - to give petrol retailers the tools to run a better business.

The new symbol proposition will offer best-in-class retail formats while retaining flexibility for its customers; helping them provide a comprehensive local convenience alternative for consumers. This will include expert advice on range and merchandising, market-leading store floorplan and planogram recommendations, and competitive prices.

Other developments include the launch of Plus Extra - a service to help retailers source the services P&H doesn’t do but that are relevant (such as flowers), negotiating the price based on the volume of the company’s business.

P&H is also introducing an initiative to help retailers get off-licences.
