Both will continue to be supplied with fuel from BP, and Manor Service Stations intends to spend more than £100,000 on refurbishments. The main site at Terminal One will be converted into a BP Connect franchise.

Manor managing director Peter Brough, who is also currently chairman of the Petrol Retailers' Association, said: "This is a significant contract for us and we are delighted to have been recognised as one of the leading operators in the country.

"We look forward to a successful relationship with Manchester Airport and, ultimately, to giving the highest quality service to those customers visiting these sites."

Manor won a fiercely contested race to run the sites, with bidders having to submit details of their objectives and their environmental policy.

Manor marketing director, Joe Brough, explained: "Our depth of experience was a key factor in us winning the bid. We have a proven record in the petrol retail industry and would put ourselves forward again for similar contracts where businesses operating service stations, but not as a core business, need expert knowledge and ability to maximise their efficiency."

Manor, which has been operating since 1972, has 12 sites in the north west.
