UKPIA has called on the government to withdraw legislation on labelling of petrol pumps because it refers to an out-of-date British Standard and offers inadequate protection for the motorist.

Chris Hunt, director general of UKPIA, said: “We urge the government to rescind this legislation which otherwise will require all petrol and diesel pumps to be relabelled by November 2004. It may lead to petrol retailers, who are unaware of the requirements, being prosecuted.”
