Our Forecourt Trader and P&H Retailer Champion award is back for 2010 by popular demand. Launched last year as

part of the Forecourt Trader of the Year Awards, it aims to recognise the key industry players in the fuel retailing sector and is run in conjunction with the principal sponsor of the awards, Palmer and Harvey. We’ve drawn up our shortlist and now we need you to vote for the retailer (or retailers) responsible for doing the most to raise the profile of the fuel retailing sector.

In no particular order, the nominees include Sailesh Sejpal and Sharad Raja, known as Sej and Raj, who run Motor Fuel Group. Number five in the Top 50 Indies list 2010, MFG has been expanding its network of forecourts this year.

Sunil Tandon, managing director of Park Garage Group, is also in the running. A big believer in motivating his staff, he recently led members of his team up Ben Nevis, helping to raise £6,000. Next up is Graham Peacock, CEO of MRH (GB), the UK’s biggest indie. It boasts a fuel volume of 1.1bn lpa and a turnover of £1.3bn.

Then we have Patrick Sewell who runs Hull-based retailer Sewell Retail, part of Sewell Group. The company beat the competition to be Forecourt Trader of the Year in 2009.

Jonathan James, of James Graven & Sons, is a very vocal campaigner for independents and this year joined the prestigious International Committee of NACS in Sydney.

And finally, Bob Etchingham who helped set up Irish fuel retailer Petrogas it recently revealed plans for expanding its Applegreen sites in the UK.
