More than 2,000 retailers have lodged appeals against the 2010 Business Rates. The figure was revealed by

MP David Gauke in response to a Parliamentary Question who said there were 2,076 rating proposals outstanding relating to forecourts (excluding supermarkets) 1,966 in England and 110 in Wales.

RMI Petrol chairman Brian Madderson said this showed the Revaluation Scheme was "financially unfair and anti-competitive".

Meanwhile, Madderson has written to Prime Minister David Cameron urging him to set up a working party to produce a plan for a fuel stabiliser.
