Retailer Michael Exelby has expressed his frustration over a planned £5m truckstop project after it was delayed by

a planning enquiry.

Michael, who runs Exelby Services, said the project at Leeming Bar in North Yorkshire had been given the green light by the local council.

But the Secretary of State for Transport had decided to call in the plans.

Michael said: "We cannot press ahead with construction as we have been told our application will now be included in the forthcoming public enquiry into a new motorway services area on the upgraded A1. This delay puts 20 new jobs on hold."

The public enquiry decision is not due until mid-2011.
