Londis pledged to invest £1m to deliver lower prices on key lines for its retailers at its annual conference last month.

Around 700 people attended the event in Birmingham where they heard plans for the year ahead. Musgrave said it was determined to work together with its Londis retailers to make Londis the best symbol partnership.

Donal Horgan, managing director at Londis, said: "The conference theme of ’Growing Through Emerging Stronger’ reflects our ambition to grow our business and emerge from this downturn a better and stronger brand. We will focus on pricing and discount; best offer; better, simpler service and recruitment; as we continue our journey to provide our customers with all they need for everyday living."

The conference programme included a trade show, interactive workshops and the Store of the Year awards and gala dinner. Julian and Jackie Taylor Green of Londis, Lindford, Hampshire scooped the Londis Store of the Year 2001 award as well as the ’large store’ award. Geoff and Teresa Turner of Londis Hemingbrough, Selby won best small store. Independent retailer Steve Vaughan of Londis Handbridge in Chester was named Londis forecourt store of the year. Top 50 Indie Kay Group’s Primrose Garage in Clitheroe scooped the title of Londis multiple account forecourt store of the year.
