Tanker drivers at Grangemouth oil refinery, in the Firth of Forth, Scotland, are threatening to strike at the end of the week in a dispute over pensions and pay.

Their union, Unite, said its members at the Forth estuary facility will walk out for three days from Friday morning. The workers, employed by BP, will also ban overtime from Monday.

Grangemouth is the northernmost oil refinery in the UK and the only one in Scotland. Unite said the industrial action would hit deliveries to BP forecourts across Scotland and the north east of England.

The union said 90% of the 42 tanker drivers balloted voted for strike action to defend their pension rights and in protest at the loss of a company share scheme as a result of an imminent aviation contract transfer from BP to another firm.

In a statement, BP said: “Our priority remains the safe delivery of fuel products to all our customers. We have been working to, and continue to work to minimise any potential disruption the industrial action planned for this weekend at Grangemouth could cause.”
