Tesco runs loss leader

Tesco has become the latest example of a supermarket using fuel as a loss leader, offering deep discounts on petrol and diesel to attract shoppers to its store or website.

The retail giant gave 10p off per litre of fuel coupons to shoppers who spent £60 in store or online for three weeks to May 26. Sainsbury’s had an identical deal, which ran from April 24-30.

Family succession

Joseph Richardson has been appointed managing director of Yorkshire family business, Jos Richardson & Son Ltd.

He is the fifth-generation Richardson to work in the Goole-based family firm, which was established in1892 by his great, great grandfather, also called Joseph Richardson.

Joseph’s father Timothy takes over as chairman having been managing director for 30 years.

Police robbery appeal

Police have appealed for help in tracing a suspect after a robbery at a petrol station.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on bank holiday Monday, May 27, when a man entered the Esso Service Station on Sway Road, Brockenhurst, in the New Forest.

He managed to get behind the counter and demanded money from the cashier, showing her a knife. He then ran from the store with several hundred pounds.

Bio-LNG first for hauliers

The UK’s first open access Bio-LNG filling station for hauliers, built by Gasrec in Daventry, has opened.

Gasrec said it was the first of a national Bio-LNG refuelling network, which was planned to be up and running by the end of 2015.

The unmanned stations will be equipped with five lanes and ten dispensers capable of fuelling up to 700 HGVs a day.
