The Independent Garage Association (IGA) has attacked the latest episode of the TV programme Your Money, Their Tricks.

The programme saw the motor trade come under the spotlight and suggested that one of Britain’s biggest fast fit chains, Kwik-Fit, makes drivers pay for unnecessary work.

“While there are some areas of concern within the motor industry, it is unfair and unjustified to judge all garages based on this one example,” said IGA director Stuart James.

James continued: “The Trust My Garage scheme, which is funded by the IGA, was launched to offer consumers piece of mind when using one of its member garages.

“All Trust My Garage sites demonstrate true professionalism and are dedicated to the highest standards of skill and personal service.

“In addition Trust My Garage recently submitted an application to become a government approved code specifically for the independent garage sector and is going through the approval process with the Trading Standards Institute.

“A Trust My Garage Code will work with Trading Standards and other consumer bodies to address any concerns consumers may have with the industry.”
