East Surrey CID have launched an appeal for information following the theft of a large quantity of diesel fuel from a petrol station.

The incident took place at the Murco petrol station at Guildford Road, Great Bookham, in Surrey, while it was closed overnight, between 11.30pm on Thursday, 29 September, and 5.30am on Friday 30 September.

Detectives believe that a Luton van entered the petrol station and removed more than 5,000 litres of diesel from the underground storage tank.

Investigating officer PC Paul Yearsley said: “It would take about two hours to remove a quantity of fuel of this volume would take around two hours. I would appeal to anyone who saw something suspicious in the area around the time of the offence to contact officers with any information.

“Stealing fuel may seem like a victimless crime but it is an offence and ultimately every motorist will end up paying to cover the cost.”

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference MV/13/3739 or they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
