Gwent Police are urging businesses to remain vigilant about security of free-standing ATMs after one was stolen from a petrol station.

The theft was the second in eight days in which a free-standing ATM has been stolen.

The latest incident occurred at approximately 3.25am on Friday 13th February at the Texaco Garage at Ambay Service Station on the A465 in Tredegar.

Two men used a silver Mercedes saloon and chain to steal the ATM.

The first was stolen from Llanfach Post Office on Penrhiw Terrace on Thursday 5th February at approximately 4.30am. Four people were seen breaking into the premises, and used a tow rope and a red twin-cabbed pick-up truck to steal the ATM. It was later recovered close to Machen Mast. Detective inspector Ian Bartholomew said: “We are continuing our enquiries into both of these incidents. In the meantime I would like to remind any business with a free-standing ATM to make sure it is as secure as possible.

“If you have CCTV, please ensure it is in full working order and filming the area around the ATM. Please remain vigilant and if you have any concerns, see anything suspicious or have any information in relation to these incidents call 101. In an emergency always dial 999.”
