Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Crimewave on Cumbrian forecourts

21 August, 2015

An upsurge of crime against petrol stations has been reported by police in south Cumbria, and they are urging the public to report any suspicious activity they may notice at car parks and petrol stations.

In the last 90 days there have been 13 incidents of thefts from car park ticket machines and garage car wash machines – resulting in over £3,200 in stolen cash or damages.

The thefts have taken place across south Cumbria – including Kendal, Ulverston, Kirkby Lonsdale, and Windermere.

Inspector Mark Somers said: “These thefts are becoming increasingly common, and I would appeal to local communities to report any suspicious behaviour they may notice around car parks and petrol stations.

“I would also urge anyone who owns or runs a business with coin operated machines to ensure they have good security in place and to empty the machines on a regular basis.”

Anyone who notices suspicious activity should call Cumbria Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
