Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community
Armed robber jailed for 8 years
Published:  02 October, 2015

A man has been jailed for eight years for holding up a filling station in Clackmannanshire, Scotland.

Mark Adair donned a balaclava and threatened a cashier with an imitation pistol at Menstrie Filling Station on 28 December, 2014. He fled with £100, but was caught by police after his car was identified from CCTV.

Jailing Adair, Lord Jones said he had left his victim “severely traumatised”. Adair threatened lone employee Helen Baillie as she was closing up the shop at the petrol station, and told her he was going to shoot her if she did not give him the keys to the safe.

She told his trial at the High Court in Edinburgh: “He pointed the gun at me and said to me that he knew where I stayed, he knew where my family stayed and he was coming back to shoot me.”

He denied assaulting and robbing Ms Baillie, but a jury took less than an hour to find him guilty.

Jailing Adair for eight years, including three months for breaching bail, Lord Jones told him his offence was one “of the utmost gravity”.
