Manager pillories thief in "hideous hoodie"

06 January, 2016

The manager of a BP garage in Scotland has launched an appeal on social media after a man “wearing a hideous hoodie” stole a £100 carved wooden bear from outside the shop.

Abbie Houston, who runs Bridgend Services in Freuchie, Fife, posted pictures of the man and his car after the Boxing Day theft.

Abbie, 30, told the Daily Record how the man moved the bear from the front of the garage around to the side before walking in to buy a packet of cigarettes and a coffee.

He then loaded the statue into his red Honda Civic and drove off towards Dundee on the A92.

Abbie wrote on Facebook: “I’m hoping someone can help me find this lad who stole a wooden carved bear from a BP garage in Freuchie: we think he is local.

“He drives a red Honda Civic and is wearing a hideous red/orange hoodie that is more than a few sizes too small… He also smokes Regal cigs.

“We are just a small family run petrol station, and we would really appreciate anyone’s help in this matter.”

She said the bears were made by a local log merchant using a chainsaw and they were introduced for Christmas so people could buy them as presents.

She added: “We’re trying to do our bit by selling local produce and then someone goes and does this.”

Police in Fife appealed for witnesses to the theft, which took place on Saturday 26th December between 2.30pm and 3pm. The suspect is described as being white, in his twenties or thirties with black hair.

Sergeant Leisa Metcalfe from Cupar Police Station said: “This ornamental bear was stolen in broad daylight and we are keen to trace the individual responsible so we can return it to its owners.

“Anyone with information can contact us at Cupar Police Station, through 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
