Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community
Robbers shut delivery man in van
Published:  16 June, 2016

Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a Tesco petrol station in Leatherhead on Friday 10 June.

The incident took place at the petrol station in Oxshott Road around 10.15am after a delivery lorry entered the forecourt and the driver was in the back unloading the goods. Two men approached him telling him to put his hands behind his head and lie down on the floor while they loaded an empty cage with cigarettes.

The driver was then shut in the rear of the delivery vehicle while the suspects made off in a van. The delivery driver was left unharmed but shaken by the incident.

Both men are described as in their 20s or 30s and of medium build. One was wearing a black top, beige trousers, a pair of white Dunlop trainers, and a white face mask which covered most of his face. The second man was wearing a grey t-shirt. Both men were wearing high-visibility jackets.

Officers investigating this latest incident have linked it to the robbery which took place at the Shell petrol station in Godstone Hill at around 6am on Bank Holiday Monday (30 May).

The victim was loading empty crates back into the vehicle when he was approached and threatened by two men who stole tobacco from his delivery vehicle before shutting him in the rear of the delivery vehicle and making off.

Detective constable Michael Barker, who is investigating the latest incident, said: “This was a serious incident which has understandably left the victim, who was trying to do his job, extremely shaken.

“Although we have already carried out extensive enquiries, we are appealing for anyone who may have been on the forecourt and witnessed the offence or seen the suspects’ vehicle in the area prior to the incident, to come forward.

“This offence was very similar to an incident at the Shell petrol station in Godstone two weeks ago and we are treating them as linked. However, while this is the second incident of a similar nature, we would like to reassure people that we are carrying out a full and thorough investigation and remain determined to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45160048973, or report it online at www.surrey.police.uk
