New HGV fuel site

Certas Energy, working in partnership with Peel Ports Group, has opened a new state-of-the-art HGV refuelling site at the Port of Liverpool. Following 12 weeks of construction, the site will now provide diesel, gas oil and AdBlue for port users. High-speed pumps that deliver 120 litres of fuel per minute will allow eight vehicles to fill up at the same time.

Digital tax delay?

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) has welcomed a report from the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee, which calls on the government to delay the implementation of mandatory digital tax reporting. In the report, the Committee states that the proposed timetable of April 2018 for most businesses to be reporting tax digitally is over ambitious, and could result in unnecessary costs and administrative burdens for businesses.

Asda thief jailed

An Asda worker has been jailed for three years and four months after she stole more than 450,000 from the company's petrol kiosks. Wendy Clements, who worked in the cash office of a Middlesbrough branch, understated the amount of cash taken at the till and stole the difference.

Gantries removed

JTI has removed gantries from two stores, 6 till 11 in Ilford, and Micklefield Superstore in High Wycombe, after they were prosecuted for dealing in illegal tobacco and ordered to pay fines and costs totalling 3,245. In addition, JTI has informed the owner of Good Morning Superstore in Harrow that they will no longer receive support from the company following action by the local authority revoking their premises licence for dealing in illegal tobacco and alcohol.
