Eight men have been arrested and a large amount of toxic waste removed, as part of an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) into a suspected £3m fuel- laundering fraud. Around 150 officers from HMRC carried out simultaneous searches of 20 business and residential addresses in the Hayes, Romford, Southend, Thurrock, Tonbridge, Southend and Watford areas late last month and seized equipment believed to be a diesel laundering plant.

Maxol, Northern Ireland's leading family owned forecourt and convenience retailer, has announced it is to roll out Freshly Chopped, the rapidly growing healthy fast-food franchise across more of its service stations in Northern Ireland, following its successful launch at Maxol A26 Tannaghmore in May. The roll-out represents a £1m investment. The next two new Freshly Chopped franchises are planned for Rosepark Service Station in Belfast and at Glenabbey Service Station in Glengormley, which is to undergo a major refit and will also see Moreish, Maxol's own 'Fresh Food' deli introduced to the site.

peregrine plans new site

Peregrine Retail has lodged a planning application for a site at Frome in Somerset as it aims to double its estate of Shell-branded forecourts twinned with Budgens stores with five new-build developments over the next two years. The proposed development, at Commerce Park in Frome, is for a large Budgens store, similar to its flagship site in Wellington, together with a 24-hour service station with 12 pumps, a jet wash, car wash and external customer seating area. It has also applied for planning permission for 23 parking spaces.

Oil industry body UKPIA (UK Petroleum Industry Association) has announced that director general Chris Hunt will be retiring in November after 20 years in the post, and that it has recruited a successor. Stephen Marcos Jones, who is currently director of business excellence at Oil & Gas UK, will take on the role when Chris Hunt retires later this year.
