Snack for the boys

United Biscuits UK is launching a new range of McCoy’s, and relaunching the Hula Hoops brand.

Introduced to fill a gap in the market for a male-targeted sharing snack, McCoy’s Specials are ridge-cut crisps with premium flavours.

There are four flavours in the sharing range (rrp £1.35) – jalapeno chilli with cheese; oriental ribs; peppered rib eye steak; and cheddar with mango chutney.

The peppered steak and oriental ribs flavours will also be available in a 50g impulse pack, along with Thai sweet chicken flavour – all with an rrp of 45p.

The new Specials range will be supported with a £4m marketing programme including TV advertising, sampling and PR.

The Hula Hoops brand, which is currently growing in impulse pack sales at a rate of 14.8% while the market as a whole is in decline, will now be targeted at all family members to increase their purchase frequency.

The relaunch also includes the introduction of cheese & onion flavour, and new multipack mixes with a new chicken flavour into the meat 12-pack, and a salt & vinegar seven-pack.

The Hula Hoops relaunch will be backed by a £4m campaign including TV advertising which breaks in Spring.
