DHL wins BP distribution deal

DHL has signed a multi-million pound retail deal with BP.
The contract means DHL will deliver 30 million cases of fresh chill, ambient and secure products such as milk, soft drinks and sandwiches to 350 UK retail forecourts each year. The company will use double deck trailers for transporting goodsbetween BP’s National Distribution Centre in Lutterworth and Nisa-Today’s Harlow warehouse, which is also managed by DHL. Rebecca Coles, BP Retail’s supply chain manager, said the company had chosen DHL because of their ability to perform to a high standard and to manage costs and change.“DHL gave us the confidence to undertake massive operational change, working to meet our strategy with innovative distribution solutions,” she said.Perry Watts, CEO of DHL’s retail sector, added that the move would help make the supply chain more efficient.The new contract covers a range of new services, including multi-temperature dedicated warehousing and distribution, daily delivery and customer services. It is an extension of work DHL has carried out for BP since 2005, when it signed a three year deal to handle convenience retail distribution.The company also supports the in-house BP main fuels fleet and aviation distribution.
