Euro opts for Spar in expansion plan

Blackburn-based Euro Garages, which is number five in our Top 50 Indies listing for 2008, has converted all its company-owned stores to Spar.
The symbol group fascia was already in place on 20 of its sites but, in a deal with Spar wholesaler James Hall, the remaining 40 or so stores were converted at the end of last year. Euro Garages also has around 15 cogops.The company is hoping to double its site portfolio through acquisitions over the next three years and sees the link with Spar as a key part of its plans.Euro Garages managing director Zuber Issa said: "We are keen to develop as many of our sites as possible to offer choice to our customers and improve our portfolio." Zuber, recently ranked fourth in Management Today magazine's list of Britain's top 100 entrepreneurs, added: "The Spar brand is an ideal fit and offers us a number of advantages such as product choice, additional buying power, sales improvement as well as stock and category management."Peter Dodding, retail director at James Hall, added: "Forecourt retailing is an area of strong expansion for Spar and a strong partner with ambitious development plans such as Euro Garages will help us develop even further." In a separate move, Euro Garages has signed a deal with Coffee Nation which will see gourmet self-service coffee machines rolled out across all 73 of its sites.The forecourt company's operations director Mohsin Issa said: "We're also building strategic partnerships with other leading national brands to add further value and synergies."
