Chevron gets back on track with the 70s

12 June, 2009

Chevron has proudly put a classic race car from the 70s back on the race track through its Texaco brand. According to the oil giant, Texaco was originally involved with the Group One and Group Two Ford Capris from 1973 to 1976

when they were run by Ted Gray, a highly respected race car engineer. Drivers at the time included Sir Jackie Stewart, Brian Muir, Emmerson Fittipaldi and Patrick Neave, with the most notable win being at the Paul Ricard Circuit near Marseille with Jackie Stewart and Brian Muir at the wheel.

Chevron says that the 300BHP Group 1 Ford Capri's current owner is David Weir, who first got into racing in the National Karting Championship when he was 18. After a career as a paramedic, David has now returned to motor racing – and brought the classic car back to the race track for the first time in over 30 years.

“The 1970’s were a golden era for motor racing and when David approached us to help bring a classic car back on the race track, we were delighted to get involved,” said Mandy Hodson, Chevron brand Mmnager, Europe. The car's first race of the season is at Castle Combe tomorrow, while it will also be appearing at circuits across Europe.
