Independent retailer Kumar Sharma has increased turnover of his car wash by 290% in seven years at his BP site in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

Cleaning algae and ensuring the right chemicals were used increased turnover by 60%; installation of Wilcomatic's Christ 115 five years ago added a further 27%; and the recent upgrade to a Christ Quantus increased sales by 41%.

The 12 programmes offer a simple brush wash with shampoo at £2.99, up to the Super Plus Platinum at £14.99. Now 22 customers a week use the top programme. "My aim is to get as near to the quality of a hand wash as possible without using a human being," said Kumar
