Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Investment pumped into Portadown

09 June, 2011

A Belfast forecourt has been knocked down and rebuilt in a £1.5m project funded by its owners – B&C Litter – and Ulster Bank.

Dungannon Road Filling Station in Portadown, which has been trading for more 20 years, has undergone a complete transformation – doubling in size and resulting in the creation of 15 new full- and part-time jobs.

Brendan Litter, owner of the family-run business said: “The business has grown from strength to strength over the years and with the full support and professional backing of Ulster Bank I knew I could take the decision to expand.

“There is a lot of pressure from larger supermarket sites with petrol stations, especially when they can afford to sell their petrol at below cost price.  Margins are increasingly tight and it’s only the fittest who will survive. By expanding the premises we have added to the services we can provide which will help us attract more customers and ensure more people can fill their baskets here.”

Ryan Mawhinney, business manager at Ulster Bank, worked closely with the business throughout the expansion. He said: “This family-run business is growing because it is responding to the changes in customer behaviour and ensuring it has a prominent presence through the Spar brand, which resonates with households across the area. It has brought in new services to help increase foot flow through the store, maximise the spend in every basket and ensure it is meeting the needs of customers.”
