Tesco starts rollout of green 'bio-fuel'
Published:  01 May, 2004

Tesco is claiming to be the first major retailer to bring biodiesel to customers around the UK, with its announcement of the start of a national roll-out of Greenergy GlobalDiesel.

Made with rapeseed, the new ‘bio-fuel’ will deliver real benefits for drivers, the community and the environment, including reductions in carbon

dioxide, improved local air quality and smooth driving performance, the company claims. Drivers switching from their normal diesel to GlobalDiesel can fill up and go as there are no changes needed to the engine oil.

The rollout follows the successful pilot of Global Diesel at the Tesco Hatfield store. It will be available on a further 21 stores in the coming weeks.

“Shoppers have asked for our help in buying more environmentally friendly high-performance fuel,” said Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco company secretary.

“Extending its availability across the UK means more customers can do their bit for the environment.”
