Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community
Gulf boosts volume right on Kew
Published:  05 April, 2012

St Kew Service Station in Cornwall is already boasting positive results following its recent switch to the Gulf brand after eight years with Jet.

"It has been a good move, the Gulf image has revitalised the site and volumes are up around 10%,” said Christian Godfre, who runs the site with his son Christian.

“In today’s economy, it’s comforting to know that we now have a very approachable supplier with a long-term commitment to the dealer market and this region.”

Situated close to the Atlantic Ocean the St. Kew Service Station can double its fuel volume during the summer months as holiday makers travel in their droves to the sunny South West of England.

However, this is no typical rural location pumping two million litres a year. Since buying the site in 1984, the Godfrey family have introduced a modern forecourt and shop, workshops, MOT bay, five retail units and a doctor’s surgery. There is ample parking for all.

“It is an integral part of St. Kew and the surrounding area”, confirms Christian. “It attracts the whole community, not just motorists. Mum and Dad purchased the site 29 years ago and redeveloped it four years later; initiating new revenue streams and increasing traffic has been an ongoing project ever since.”

Current facilities include a Costcutter supermarket, Post Office, bakery and hairdressers. Five doctors work from the surgery, which is part of the Port Isaac Practice, although TV’s Doc Martin is not believed to be one of them!
