Scheidt & Bachmann has added the option of an integrated bank note accepter to its Clou multi-media pay-at-pump dispenser.

The bank note accepter is the first of its kind to be approved in Europe and the first machines were installed at an unmanned site run by the LCC Group in Belfast at the end of last month.

Ian Jacques, managing director of Scheidt & Bachmann (S&B) in the UK, said that the economical downturn is making payment by cash at the pump more appealing. "The average transaction value of fuel purchases has dropped and a lot more people are having to manage their own budgets based on what cash is in their pockets. LCC said they're missing 40% of the market that wants to pay in cash."
