Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Spar injects new lease of life into Threeways Garage

22 November, 2012

An Abergele petrol station is being given a new lease of life after forging a relationship with Spar. Threeways Garage, in Faenol Avenue, is set to convert its convenience store from Lifestyle to Spar at the end of the month.

The Threeways site, which houses a 24-hour Shell forecourt and HGV lane, 40-seat café, car wash centre, a number of vehicle franchises and a motorhome business, has been in operation for more than 30 years and has undergone numerous changes since it started trading in 1979.

Having fought through many tough economic times, the independently owned business has constantly strived to improve and now boasts a 2,400sq ft Spar convenience store offering including hot food to go, Lottery, PayPoint, and an off licence.

To celebrate the store’s renovation, it held a well-attended fun day on Saturday, November 10. The site was officially declared open with a ribbon cutting carried out by Darren Millar AM and town mayor Tim Rowlands.

Visitors to the store were able to bag themselves free samples and taste some of the delicious fresh baked products the store now stocks. Children were also entertained with face painting.

Local primary schools had been encouraged to get involved prior to the launch by taking part in a colouring competition. Winners were announced on the day, with first prize for the five to seven-year olds being a Kidizoom Camera and first prize for eight to ten-year olds being an iPod Nano. Two runners up in each category were also awarded £25 Argos vouchers and the winners’ parents were able to choose a free bottle of wine.

Managing director Carl Cunnah said: “I’m really pleased we’re taking our business into its next era in conjunction with Spar. We have always been a forward-thinking operation and have always looked to offer that something extra. We’re always looking to offer our customers the best value and I am confident we will now offer something for everyone.”
