Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Kay Group picks up second award

05 December, 2012

Kay Group has celebrated 40 years in business for its chief executive Ken Kay by picking up its second award in two months.

In September the Blackburn-based group’s Formby outlet won Forecourt Trader’s award for the Best Northern Site Over 2.5 mlpa, and it has now added the Service Station of the Year Award from the Association for Petroleum and Explosives Aministration (APEA) for the same site.
Ken Kay started out with a single site in 1972 and the group has now built up to 11 sites all featuring large convenience stores, and has agreed terms on a 12th site.
Shell, Texaco and Londis are the group’s principal suppliers along with partnerships with Subway and Greggs.
Formby is the Kay Group’s flagship site. It was built on derelict land and overcame a number of problems including Japanese Knotweed on the site to open in October 2011
Receiving the latest award, group managing director Richard Cox said: “We worked hard to ensure that this new site delivered the best offering available for customers.
“From the high quality fuel to a customer friendly retail outlet catering for their needs. We built the site to optimise costs and provide the safest working environment possible.
“We’re understandably proud of what we’ve achieved at this site, and truly belive this is the way forward for all service station in the future.”
