Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Sainsbury's running 10ppl-off promotion

23 April, 2013

Sainsbury’s has introduced a new cut-price fuel promotion running from April 24 to April 30. Customers who spend £60 or more in store will receive a coupon entitling them to 10p off per litre of fuel when they fill up at one of the company's 280 forecourts. Customers who order their groceries online with Sainsbury’s will receive a coupon with their delivery.

Sainsbury's claims that the promotion, alongside recent price cuts of up to 4ppl last week, mean it has reduced fuel prices by as much as 9ppl for diesel and 5ppl for unleaded in the past five weeks. The company was recently praised for its cheap prices by the AA which stated “in towns where there isn’t a Sainsbury’s selling petrol, there is much less incentive for petrol stations to reduce their charges”.

Richard Crampton, Sainsbury’s head of fuel, said: “We know that fuel is a big part of many household budgets and we are committed to helping our customers cut down on cost whenever we can. We are committed to delivering great value on everything we sell and have managed to reduce fuel prices significantly over the past five weeks. We hope that our 10ppl fuel promotion, combined with our recent fuel price drops, will help families balance their budgets during the Bank Holiday break in the run up to the summer holidays.”

The promotion allows for one till receipt fuel voucher to be issued per single qualifying store or online grocery purchase on transactions of £60 or over (excluding delivery charge and after any discounts have been applied).

The online offer applies to groceries only; and to deliveries made by Tuesday April 30.

The voucher is valid for 14 days from date of issue. However the following products are not included in the qualifying spend: scratch cards, petrol, diesel and LPG autogas, prescription medicine, infant formula, tobacco and related products, gift vouchers, BT phone cards, E-Topup, savings stamps, postage stamps, National Lottery products, car park tickets, vending machine purchases, online delivery charges and purchases from coffee shops/restaurants and deposits.
