Police in an East Midlands city plagued by under-age drink sales have rammed home their zero-tolerance message by saying ‘no’ to their next door neighbours – Texaco.
The petrol giant applied for a licence to sell alcohol at their outlet in Bull Head Street, Wigston, on the outskirts of Leicester. But, to the surprise of Texaco, the police managed to convince magistrates to throw out the application – despite the fact that the filling station is smack next door to the police station. But despite this, police told the magistrates, the area suffered from highlevels of alcohol-fuelled crime and anti-social behaviour, and were concerned that “another outlet in an already troubled area would only serve to intensify the problem.”
