Knife raider jailed

08 May, 2013

A robber who held up a petrol station at knifepoint and stole £25, has been sentenced to three years, four months in prison.

Lukas Cebatavicious walked into the Co-op BP service station on Sheffield Road, Barnsley, and threatened a member of staff with a pocket knife before lunging towards the till and stealing £25.

Barnsley Magistrates Court heard the incident, at around 7.50pm on December 2 last year, was caught on CCTV and Cebatavicious was recognised by a member of the public.

He was picked out at an identification parade and admitted the offence to police.

When Cebatavicious, aged 21, of no fixed address, has served his jail sentence he will be deported to Lithuania.

Detective Constable Matt Gregory said: “I want to thank the public for their help in this case. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to identify him.

“I am pleased he has been given a prison sentence and want to reassure the public we will not tolerate crime in Barnsley, and will do everything we can to catch those responsible.
