Women customer attacked on forecourt

24 May, 2013

A woman customer has been attacked by two men after they attempted to rob a Jet petrol station in Strathclyde, Scotland.

After being caught trying to steal food at the Jet Garage on Inchinnan Road in Renfrew, the pair turned on the 42-year-old woman, who was visiting the garage to buy some sweets.

They attempted to snatch her handbag before punching and kicking her to the ground, continuing their attack while she lay on the garage forecourt.

Police described the assault as “horrific” and said that the victim has been left “badly shaken” by the incident.

Inspector Angela McKendry of Renfrew Police said: “Police were called out at around 1am last Sunday after two men attempted to rob a Jet garage in Renfrew.

“After this they then targeted an innocent female in the forecourt of the garage and attempted to steal her property.

“This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a lone female who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“It was particularly horrific as they continued the attack on the victim while she lay on the garage forecourt. Luckily the woman has escaped with minor injuries.

“We have arrested someone in connection with the assault but would appeal for the community to come forward if they have any information on who the other attacker could be.

“We would also like to reassure the public that we have increased both plain clothed and uniformed patrols in the area while continuing our usual enquiries.”

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Police said the victim was still recovering from the ordeal and has been left “badly shaken” by the incident.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
