Forecourt Trader - 30 years at the heart of the fuel retailing community

Fun and face painting at official Simply Fresh forecourt opening

31 May, 2013

The official opening of the first Simply Fresh symbol store on a forecourt, saw an extra 200-300 people come along and join in the fun last weekend.

GH Lunn & Son, the BP-branded site in the rural village of Weare in Somerset, invited local residents to celebrate the opening of the new store, which has been extended to 1,000sq ft. Owners Simon and Sarah Lunn organised many activities including a face painter, free food and drink samples, promotional giveaways, and also raised £130 for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The business has been established in Weare for more than 60 years and the new store has been well received, with locals voting with their feet. The Lunns are very pleased with the response: “Since May 2013, we have seen a double digit increase in shop sales, footfall and fuel volume, compared to May 2012,” said Simon.

When a major car manufacturer like Ford predicts that sales of its electrified cars will outnumber petrol and diesel models by 2022, does that ring alarm bells about the possible speed of change for forecourts?
