Shell Henfield reopens following lengthy closure

22 August, 2013

Shell Henfield has reopened its doors today following a lengthy closure in a derelict state, which upset the local community.

The West Sussex site closed in January 2011 after routine tests discovered soil contamination prior to minor alteration works. Further tests were carried out during 2011 and 2012 and in June 2012 environmental remediation work was carried out. In January 2013, the redevelopment of Shell Henfield began.

A spokesman for the company said: “Shell takes these issues very seriously and has worked closely with the Local Authority, Environment Agency, and site neighbours to ensure the works caused the minimum of disruption. Shell will continue to environmentally monitor in accordance with the plans agreed with the Local Town Planning authority.

“The newly redeveloped site, will once again be serving the local community with a range of Shell products and services including Shell V-Power Nitro+ fuels, regular unleaded and diesel fuels and Costa Coffee. Motorists will also benefit from Shell Attended Service.”

Local residents complained about the derelict site and the lengthy closure period, during which time they had to travel to other towns to fill up.

To mark the opening, Shell Henfield is today (August 22) hosting a number of giveaways and an onsite promotion. The first 100 customers of the day were offered a free regular Costa Coffee and a Danish pastry; and customers visiting between 11.00 and 13.00 are offered a free sausage roll. Throughout the day Shell Henfield will be surprising fuel customers at random with Shell fuel vouchers as prizes in a Lucky Pump Promotion.

Richard Horne, Shell Territory manager London and the Home Counties, said: “It’s great Shell Henfield is back serving the local community and I’m delighted Shell Attended Service will be one of the ways we will be helping motorists here. I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support during the redevelopment.”
