Forecourt worker robbed at gunpoint

01 October, 2013

Two men have been arrested by armed police officers after a petrol station worker had what he believed was a gun pointed at him during a robbery.

The worker had just left the Murco garage on Norton Road, Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland, carrying the weekend’s takings to be banked, when he was forced to hand over the bag at gunpoint.

The robber escaped in a car, but a short time later armed response officers stopped a suspected stolen red BMW car nearby.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a service station on Norton Road in Stockton at around 4.10pm to a report of a robbery. A man was robbed of a bag containing cash by an unknown man who fled the scene.

“When reported, a handgun was mentioned though this has still to be confirmed. Inquiries are at an early stage.

“No one was injured in the robbery and police have arrested two men, both aged 25, in connection with the incident. They remain in custody and will be questioned in due course.”

The forecourt worker was not physically harmed but was taken to hospital suffering from shock. The garage was closed following the robbery but reopened later that night.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
