Police seeking petrol station arsonist

05 February, 2014

Detectives are appealing for information after a fire was started deliberately at a petrol station in Hoghton, near Preston, Lancashire.

Police were called to the Old Oak Service Station on Hoghton Road at 10.25pm on Sunday 19 January following a report of a blaze.

It is believed somebody climbed onto the roof of the kiosk and smashed through the tiles before pouring accelerant into the building and setting it alight. The petrol station wasn’t open at the time and nobody was injured.

Detective constable Dom Webster said: “We are following up a number of lines of enquiry, but I am keen to hear from anybody who has any information about this incident.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area on the night in question to come forward.

“The Old Oak Inn is next to the garage and was open at the time the fire was started. If you were in the pub that evening and think you may have information which could help then please contact police.”

Anybody with any information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
