Asda unleaded at 105.7ppl after further price cuts

06 January, 2015

A further 2ppl has been cut from fuel prices by the big four supermarkets just six days after the last round of price cuts.

Asda was the first to move announcing on Twitter at 2.40am on Monday January 5: “We’re cutting fuel prices again. From tomorrow (Tuesday January 6), you’ll pay no more than 105.7ppl for unleaded or 112.7ppl for diesel.”

At 4am Morrisons, which uses Twitter much more sparingly, said: “We are cutting the price of petrol and diesel again from tomorrow, by up to 2ppl.”

This was followed by Tweets from Tesco at 4.58am and Sainsbury’s at 5.24am. Tesco said its cuts would be introduced from the afternoon of January 5. Peter Cattell, fuel director for Tesco, said: “It’s the new year and we want to give our customers a helping hand, many of whom will be going back to work today. We’re dropping the cost of petrol by 2ppl and diesel by 2ppl at all of our 500 filling stations.

“That’s on top of the 6ppl average saving on petrol that ClubCard customers are currently getting thanks to our Fuel Save scheme. It means ClubCard customers can get the lowest price for petrol in the UK.”

Sainsbury’s said it was the seventh time in six weeks it had dropped the price of fuel. Avishai Moor, Sainsbury’s head of fuel, added: “From tomorrow we’re dropping the price of unleaded petrol and diesel by 2ppl at all our petrol stations. This is another way in which we can help put money back in customers’ pockets after the Christmas period, which can be an expensive time of year.”
