WheelRight makes checking tyres simple
Published:  07 April, 2015

Technology that provides instant tyre pressure readings for cars, trucks and buses, without the need to stop the vehicle, is being piloted at Keele Services on the M6 (southbound) this spring.

Any vehicle can drive over WheelRight's instrument at 5-10mph and it will then provide a read-out on a touch screen or print-out for all tyres in three-to-four seconds. The three-month pilot, which is being organised in partnership with the Highways Agency, will provide the agency with general data about the condition of motorists' tyres, while providing car and HGV drivers with a quick and easy way of checking their own vehicles' tyres.

Two WheelRight systems will be installed at Keele, one in the HGV area and another for private motorists.

John Catling, WheelRight's chief executive, said: "We've had discussions with the oil companies about introducing the system on their forecourts and we would be interested in talking to other forecourt owners about implementing it on their sites.

"It would fit perfectly alongside a car wash or possibly even inside one, and would provide a site with differentiation from other forecourts in its area."
