Attack on station manager featured in Crimewatch

27 May, 2015

An attack on the manager of a petrol station in which more than £4,000 takings were stolen was featured in BBC’s Crimewatch on Tuesday night.

The attack occurred at 11am on Saturday 7 February as Kuventhiran Sithambaranathan was on his way to the Post Office on Hall Street in Darlaston, West Midlands, to deposit just over £4,000 takings from the previous day.

Kuventhiran pulled up in his car outside the Post Office and the attack was witnessed by his seven-year-old son, who was in the car, and was caught on a nearby CCTV camera.

The CCTV recording shows Kuventhiran pulling up outside the post office and getting out. A red Audi appears from around the corner and two masked men ambush him and punch him to the ground. A third masked man then pulls out a fire extinguisher and sprays it towards them. As they move out of shot of the camera, the man with the extinguisher runs over and sprays Kuventhiran directly in the face before the men grab the takings and flee.

After the attack the three men get into the Audi A4, bearing false number plates, A61HBH, and make their escape. They sped off along Wolverhampton Street.

In the programme Kuventhiran said he thought the attackers were going to kill him and he was desperately concerned for his son because he thought they were going to steal his car, and his son was in it.
