Take one look at the growth figures for the former Coffee Nation self-serve machines which have been rebranded as Costa Express, and it's impossible to deny the power of a major brand. It's been just over a year since Costa Coffee acquired Coffee Nation, creating a sub-brand of its globally renowned handmade mocha Italian blend of coffee. And, since the rebranding process began last July, forecourts with these machines have seen their coffee sales increase by 20-30% .

Oxo on the box

Oxo is back on TV in a £1.5m integrated campaign that sees the return of the Oxo family. The commercial features Oxo Squeezy Stock and this time dad's in charge!

Foster's extension

Heineken has extended the Foster's range with the launch of a 330ml stubby can in a six-pack. Containing 1.3 units of alcohol, it is designed for people wanting a mid-week drink.

Upward trend for soft drink sales, says Britvic

Despite the economic challenges, sales of soft drinks kept their place on people's shopping lists and remained among the top three beverage categories for social occasions, according to the 2012 Britvic Soft Drinks Report.

A whiff of profits

JTI is introducing a new-look pack for its large whiff cigar, King Six. JTI's head of communications, Jeremy Blackburn, says: "Cigars are a lucrative profit line for retailers and the new look for King Six will ensure it remains relevant to the modern adult cigar smoker. Large whiff cigars, which account for 35% of the sector (Nielsen data), should be stocked alongside miniatures to ensure retailers provide consumers with a range and choice."

Free bottle bonanza

Powerade, the brand that is hydrating the athletes at London 2012, is giving away a Powerade Olympic Games sports bottle free with every purchase. The bottles are the same as those that will be used by all the athletes competing.

Rolo on the block

Nestlé is adding a Rolo variant to its successful £1 blocks range. The 100g Rolo bar is filled with a caramel centre and uses the Rolo shape to create a moulded block that the company says is different to anything else on the market.

What a Difference a Shake Makes is the theme of the latest advertising for Yazoo milkshake. Ads feature The Shake Squad and are designed to broaden the appeal of Yazoo to young men.

Trebor is celebrating being part of Cadbury, the official treat provider of London 2012, by running an on-pack promotion which gives away VIP trips to the Olympic Games.

Golden opportunity

Cadbury is building up activity around the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with its first on-pack ticket package giveaway. The on-pack promotion, entitled Unwrap Gold, is offering consumers the chance to win one of hundreds of London 2012 ticket packages if they find an exlusive golden voucher inside specially marked packs. They can also win one of a thousand prizes a day by entering their wrapper code online. The offer features on 18 SKUs, including key countlines, sharing bags and multi-packs and runs from April 14 to July 7.
