A deal to build a BP petrol filling station and Spar store in Leeds has been signed by Huddersfield-based forecourt operator CJ Stern (Oils) Ltd.

The company has secured a deal with Aire Valley Land LLP, the joint venture partnership of Evans Property Group and Harworth Estates, to deliver a petrol filling station with associated retail on a gateway site at Temple Green.

The site has outline consent and, subject to reserved matters, will incorporate a BP petrol filling station with three HGV and four vehicle pumps along with a 2,000sq ft Spar convenience store.

Subject to detailed planning consent, work will start on site before the end of the year, with the facility operational in Summer 2017. Colliers represented Temple Green in the transaction.

CJ Stern director Nazir Musa said: “We are pleased to have secured this strategic plot at Temple Green to facilitate our continued company growth. As the largest commercial development site in Leeds and with the forthcoming delivery of the Park and Ride hub, this presented the ideal location to establish a new operation. We are looking forward to progressing with planning in order to start works on site.”

James Pitt, development director of Evans Property Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome an established operator for the petrol filling station site ahead of completion of the initial infrastructure works. There has been increasing interest in the roadside plots adjacent to the Park and Ride interchange due to their gateway positioning off J45 M1 and visibility from the A63.”

Ian Ball, executive director of income generation at Harworth Estates, added: “With a delivery programme of around 12 months on occupational requirements, we are now conducting discussions with a range of potential manufacturing and distribution occupiers seeking to be part of one of the most significant logistics development sites in the North. The petrol filling station forms an important part of the overall offering at Temple Green and we are pleased to have concluded this deal.”
