A new association has been formed to represent those working in the car wash industry. The Car Wash Association (CWA) wants to recruit more members to help work for best practice in the

sector as well as create a level playing field for anyone offering car wash services.

The association started out as the Car Wash Campaign Group (CWCG) last year, and was originally formed to fight the two biggest threats to the industry: unregulated car washes and drought orders.

It recently became an association in order to put across its wider message.

Retailer David Charman, of the Parkfoot Garage group in Kent, is chairman, and says the change will also give the group more opportunity to grow as well as offer a range of benefits to members in the future. Michael Harris, managing director of WashTec, has been elected deputy chairman.

CWA members include WashTec, Ryko, Wilcomatic, Total, Lakeside Group, Snax 24, Alfred Jones, Mr Clean, Clean Car Co, IMO, Spanjer Chemicals and MRH (GB).

David says: "This is a way for those in the industry to work together to promote legitimate car washing."
